Patrick D. LaffertyPatrick D. Lafferty, BSc, FCA, CMC, retired as a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in 2002 after 38 years of providing audit, accounting, business valuation and strategic advisory services to the private sector, regulated industries and three levels of government. In 25 years of practice in Ottawa he served almost every federal department and agency. He also served as national director of government and telecom industry services; as an Assistant Auditor General of Canada; as member of the Public Sector Accounting and Auditing Standards Committee of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants; and as author and editor of many studies and articles in public sector management and governance. Facilitating a strategic planning process for the Medical Research Council in 1992 led to assignments creating: special MRC programs for smaller universities; the Canadian Medical Discoveries Fund; the Canadian Institutes of Health Research; and the Canada West Health Innovation Council. He facilitated strategic planning initiatives of three universities; the pharmaceutical industry in Ontario; federal, provincial and municipal departments and branches involved in health and health research; Ontario’s Cancer Innovation Working Group; the Toronto’s University Health Network; University of Ottawa Heart Institute, St. Boniface Research Institute, University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR), and Alberta Heritage Foundation for Health Research. He continues to provide occasional strategic planning facilitation services, and is on the Executive Committee of the Friends of Canadian Institutes of Health Research. |
