Alan Douglass (MD)
Alan Douglass, a psychiatrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, is the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Service of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, which includes both a sleep disorders clinic and a research component. He is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, and also lectures in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Psychology) on the subject of sleep and dream research. He has published over 30 articles relating to psychiatric illness, sleep disorders medicine, and conditions where the two can be confused such as narcolepsy, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. He is the lead author of the Sleep Disorders Questionnaire, which is used internationally in six languages. He continues with research in the clinical neuroscience of REM sleep, rapid eye movement physiology, and its relationship to mental disorders.
