Jean-Claude Pierre Léon Bisserbe (MD)
Jean-Claude Pierre Léon Bisserbe is Clinical Director of Mood Disorders of the UOIMHR and Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa Adjunct Professor in the department of Psychology at Carlton University.
Dr Bisserbe received his Medical degree from Toulouse University in France in 1981. He completed his residency in Psychiatry in Paris. He did a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda USA, then joined the Institut National de Recherche de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (INSERM).
Prior to joining the IMHR, he was Director of the CNS Clinical Research at the Institut de Recherche Pierre Fabre and consulting psychiatrist at the University Hospital Fernand Widal, France.
Dr. Bisserbe's research interests and expertise are in both basic and clinical neurosciences. In the area of basic neurosciences he has investigated the physiology and pharmacology of adenosine in the brain and in endocrine tissues. In the area of clinical sciences, he has investigated the epidemiology, physiopathology and treatment of anxiety disorders.
Dr Bisserbe has worked on the pharmacological treatment of relapse and recurrence of mood disorders. His current research is on genetic risk factors for depression and on resistance to standard treatments for mood disorders.
