Patrice Boyer (MD, PhD)

Patrice Boyer (MD) has accepted the position of Research Director of the University of Ottawa, Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR), Schizophrenia Research Unit. Dr. Boyer recently arrived from Paris, France and is now devoting his professional time between the IMHR, University of Ottawa and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

Dr. Boyer received his MD degree from the University of Paris 6 with a certificate in Medical Biology and a Specialization in Psychiatry. Subsequently, Dr. Boyer received a Certificate of General Pharmacology, University of Paris 7 and a National Doctorate for Research (PhD) from the University of Paris 5.

The progressive research efforts of Dr. Boyer have resulted in the publication of over one hundred scientific papers and book chapters, with the focus of his efforts relating to the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and to the exploration of the neuro-cognitive impairment evidenced in this condition. With twenty four years of academic research experience with the French National Institute for Medical Research and the National Council for Scientific Research, Dr. Boyer brings forth a wealth of research and academic experience. He is still a member of the scientific board for the French National Agency for Research (ANR).

Most notably, Dr. Boyer is the Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Psychiatry, Co-Editor of the International Psychiatry Today and a former Regional Editor of the British Journal of Psychiatry.

Dr. Boyer has held a Full Professorship (Neurosciences and Psychopathology), and has been the Chairman, Neuroscience Teaching Department and the Director of Post-Graduate Doctorate for Applied Neurosciences and Neuropsychology, University of Paris 7. Dr. Boyer has delivered scores of invited lectures worldwide, including recent ones at the European congress of Psychiatry (AEP, March 2006) and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP, September 2006).
